Fashion and the Caribbean

5:52 PM Unknown 0 Comments

With a family that comes from the West Indies this post is really dear to my heart. Fashion as I always say is more than clothing, it's a culture and this time it's taking us to Jamaica.
This passed June in Kingston, Jamaica the 13th annual Caribbean Fashion Week has taken place!

Now Kingston is more familiarly known for the beautiful beaches and the delicious food, but we can add growing fashion capitol to that list. During this three day event there was a great mix of new up and coming designers as well as more established designers doing showcases.
There were also some designers being showcased that were from other countries as well. Like Mahlet Afework who is an Ethiopian designer who has some of the most talked about beachwear this year. Some other favorites were Gavin Douglas and Ashley Martin just to name a few.
Now that Caribbean Fashion Week is well into it's 13th year I believe it's safe to say that this will be a rising fashion destination for fashion lovers all over. Congratulations and I look forward to the future and excited for the great fashion trends that may emerge from this.

Denim Direction

5:10 AM Unknown 1 Comments

Some time ago denim mad a stronger comeback earlier this summer, the high waist denim shorts that took the world by storm and have been here ever since. Now another direction is coming for denim that will show it in a whole new way.
The great thing about the new denim trend is that you can wear it in the day or night, to work , to lunch,  to girls night out, or on date night.
one way is to wear the denim shirt. you can wear it tucked in to work with a cute colored pencil skirt or a full skirt. Then dress it with some heavy jewelry with metallic or a pop of color.
You can also take this look to lunch with denim shorts and a blazer.
Last but not least you can wear denim on date night, with something a little more sexy for the occasion. So ladies enjoy your denim while you can because as we fashionista's know , that can all change in the blink of an eye!!!!

Dressing Lady GaGa

9:37 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Anyone who is anyone knows the fabulous Lady GaGa and her style. Lately others would even state that her style may be a bit questionable. Here at Fashion Kukture I love the fact that GaGa isn't afraid to wear couture pieces everyday. With her new album ARTPOP, that will debut on November 11th it is being said that her wardrobe will be going in a new direction. The powerhouse labels Balenciaga and Saint Laurent will be styling her. We will be seeing something completely unexpected new, and  fresh from Lady Gaga. We are excited and cannot wait to see what she will come up with. Gaga fans prepare and be on the lookout for something amazing from this avant -garde artist.

Greyscale

9:07 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Since we have been gushing about the black and white duo, I think we can show grey some love as well.
Today I find myself drawn to the greyscale. I decided on a simple grey tee and brighten it with some beautiful burgundy jeans.
I acessorized it with a purple and blue iridescent necklace. It's simple and chic. This look can go from day to night with a change of shoes.

Fashionable for Church

5:38 AM Unknown 0 Comments

If you didn't know, today is Sunday and for most people like myself it's almost time for church. Just because your going to church doesn't mean you can't be fashionable. Now hear me out, when going to church ladies please remember to wear appropriate attire. Not too short of a skirt and not too much cleavage. You are going into the house of God and we should be mindful and respectful of that.
With all that being said I do have some tips for you. You can still follow up on most trends, like bright colors, bold prints and even go with the trending midway skirt.
This morning I will share what I'm wearing this week.
This week I opted for a beautiful purple blouse, a printed skirt, and a heavy purple and blue metallic necklace. I will wear the blouse tucked in and button it to the top so I can wear the necklace on the outside under the collar. If that's not your taste you can leave the two top buttons open and wear the necklace on the inside.
Maybe I might pop it with some red shoes or tan suede sandals. What do you think?

Metallic Summer

6:03 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Today I was wondering if it were issuable to bring some Metallica back this summer. Everywhere all I see are prints , but sometimes O like to keep it simple. In New York it's still a little chilly so what better way to wear a metallic than in my sweater.

. I bought this sweater during the holidays, but why can't Iake this an all year sweater. That's the beauty of fashion, the trends change and mixing and matching different styles and textures ate more widely accepted. To make it bright again I went for my favorite  bright orange. This time I opted for a orange skirt. Fashionistas follow my lead the metallic trend is coming in big for the fall and winter as well.
Here I did pair this outfit with metallic silver studs and silver and diamond rings on each hand. Ladies let your metallic side shine!

Touch of Sunshine

9:37 AM Unknown 0 Comments

If you live in the New York area,  I am sure you are well aware of the gloomy day that we are having. Days like today I know people usually opt out for some comfy sweats and sneakers. Well, not this fashionista! I want all of you fahsion lovers out there to protest with me. Just because the weather surves us a gloomy day we can perk it up with style.
With that being said today I added a splash of sunshine to my look by adding a splash of rustic orange in my sweater and shoes.
Yes, I said sweater, it's chilly outside today. My necklace also handsome golden hues in it as well. I paired them again with my gold studs.
Also for an element of surprise I had some rustic bracelets that complimented the grey in my heels.

Always remember if you want to wear your shoes with a buckle up by the ankle with jeans simply roll them up once so you can see the beauty of the shoe.
No matter the weather stay fashionable!!

Simply fashionable

7:33 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I know we all have heard this time and time again. LESS IS MORE!!
This saying applies even in the fashion world. Not all the time you have to be fussy. I do think you should be bright and bold but it is good to just keep it basic and simple at times as well. There must be some type of balance within your wardrobe.
This summer a simplistic idea is......
1. Keep the basics. Forget 60 shades of grey. Fall back in love with Black & White
                 White Jeans

2. Simple Two Tones
For this fall and winter two colored jackets are trending! Keep this in mind.
Ladies once again, fall back in love with simplicity and remember always stay fabulous!

Making Campaign Magic

3:39 PM Unknown 0 Comments

We all know that right about now everyone who is in anyone in the fashion business is now preparing for fall and winter. More importantly they are preparing their campaigns, and Louis Vuitton  is doing just that.

Heading their fall campaign is the beautiful actress Michelle Williams. This time around the bombshell is sporting a sexy pixie haircut and romantic red lips. The color goes well with her flawless skin. In the top campaign photo she is shown posing with the new W handbag while sporting all other pieces from the LV Collection. Everyone has their opinions as for celebrities endorsing powerhouse names but here I believe this dynamic duo will work and look fabulous across the fall spread coming in September.

Go for patterns!

8:37 AM Unknown 0 Comments

This summer I can't stress enough how much we need to be in the BOLD!
I love everything bright and vibrant. During the summer it's all about having fun in activities and in style.
On my way home I pass by a few boutiques and shops and these are everywhere. Bold patterns and bright colors no matter if the pattern is fun or tribal. You can also be more soft and girly with floral patterns. Either way you can be full of patterns and fashionable. Prepare for the day and remember to always be fashion forward!

Fashionably Comfortable

8:25 AM Unknown 1 Comments

It is coming to the end of July and we all know what that means. Here comes the real August summer heat. I want to encourage you to never sacrifice your style because of the heat.
Always keep in style no matter what! I try and so can you.
Right now it is all about mixing and matching more dressed pieces with casual ones to keep comfortable during the heat I will even use my outfit for example. Here I have on a navy sleeveless blouse with the front tucked into my more casual cargo shorts. I paired it with my heavy gold plated necklace and gold stud earrings to keep the look more chic because I was going to work.
Ladies the whole idea is to mix and match have fun. No, you don't have to look slouchy like a couch potato to be comfortable. Remember this always look your best everyday because you never know who you might meet. Put your best foot forward and always look amazing.

Summer with Colors

6:01 AM Unknown 0 Comments

All through the year I'm pretty sure we all wear out our neutral colors. They are safe and look great in all seasons throughout the year. Let's try something different. I want all the fashionistas to take a leap of faith and jump right into the world of bold and bright COLOR!
This summer embrace the warmth and vibrancy that can only come from bright colors with gorgeous patterns. Be apart of the fashion trend that is spreading everywhere. Add colors to your day to day ensemble whether it be in your shoes or your bag. Color can also be shown in your makeup epically lipstick.
Ladies please do remember that when adding that pop of color in your lipstick be careful. Not every shade is for ever complexion. Just be mindful of that when purchasing your products.
Go out there and be bright and cheerful inside and out!

Rihanna For River Island

9:57 PM Unknown 0 Comments

We all know that Rihanna has done a collection with River Island before, and to no surprise it sold out .
Now she is working on the her second collection with the powerhouse label and it is been most anticipated. This collection will be for the fall so we are excited to see what type of patterns, material, and textures she may choose.
Usually when celebrities do a fashion line with designers they do predominately well, especially if they have a major fan base Rihanna things are a little different in a sense because she is very chic. Working her way to be a fashion icon. This may boost her lines with River Island a little more than others. Overall she has great style, but sometimes some things she wears are questionable. Hey, we all have worn a crazy outfit from time to time.
Well to Rihanna we here at FashionKulture support the collection we are looking forward to the finished products.

Birkenstocks are Back

4:57 AM Unknown 0 Comments

You know that sometimes beauty brings pain right? Well usually in the show department, most shoes are uncomfortable but because their fashionable we wear them anyway. Be honest ladies, you know we do. This summer you don't have to!
The Birkenstock sandals are making a comeback!
We saw the first sign of them making an appearance in fashion week. We all know that once at fashion week it won't be long until they go main stream. Not like the not so attractive Birkenstock  sandal when they originated. They have gotten a serious update and oh how they are in style.
Run to the mall now and grab you a pair!

Jewelry makes a Statement

3:14 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Statement jewelry is making a bigger splash in the smear street style scene then ever. Also the statement jewelry is crossing over into the high end fashion world.

Just like Roberto Cavalli, bringing in this necklace and ear cuff.
I know isn't it gorgeous! If you don't have that Roberto and Cavalli money that is alright too. Majority of your retailers in the mall have them. My personal favorites are from Aldo or H&M. If you'd rather order them online go to StyleGodis.com.

This trend is a great choice because you can be as loud as you want. I always say the chunkier and brighter the better. You can keep it classic with simple shapes and one cir or you can be funky and wear a piece that has different shapes  and is multicolored.
If you haven't bought one already I advise you go and get some ASAP!

Meet me Midway

6:43 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Ladies with the heatwave that's going on right now, I'm pretty sure pants are the last thing on your mind. What else is a girl to do in this situation. Pull out the skirts.
Yes skirts, I know typical next choice. Especially when it's this hot the mini skirt is usually the skirt of choice.
I want to get into a trend I believe is a little unappreciated. The skirt is not to the the floor long, or extremely short. This trend is a more vintage feel that is making it's way back. Wear them with bright or neutral color. Also they look amazing with pleats  patterns, and even polka dots. Ladies carry on the fashion midi skirt momentum. Now that you are equipped with the do's and don't's, go forth and be fashionable!!!!

From the glamorous hallways at ELLE Magazine the amazing Creative Director Mr Joe Zee and  Fashion designer and professor, Rob Younkers have created a camp that will  allow the young designers to get a "behind the seams" experience.

Who is the FAIREST of Vanity Fair

12:30 PM Unknown 0 Comments

It is the question that all of us ladies have asked at least once in our lives. "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" The buzz on the fashion scene is that crown is being worn by Kerry Washington.
The newly wed
Kerry graces the cover of Vanity Fair's latest issue speaking about her heroine role on the Thursday night drama Scandal. In the show she plays the "fixer" if you will to her high profile clients, all the while guarding some of the White House's most prize secrets. It is her relationship with the president that keeps her loyal viewers watching to see what will happen next. Scandal has also gained majority of it's momentum by the social media frenzy that it ignites every Thursday. According to many viewers and fans of all ages casting Kerry Washington was the best idea they have ever had. She is the only actress who can pull of the strength and wittiness of Olivia Pope. Here at Fashion Kulture we more than agree. Kerry is always one to watch because of her amazing style sense, great presence   tremendous acting skills, most of all her compassionate heart. She is a wonderful human being and she inspires me to believe in the greatness of humanity once again. If you would like to get the full cover story pick up your copy of Vanity Fair on shelves now, or follow her on Twitter @kerrywashington
